Critter Counter - New Arrivals at the Village

Welcome to the Critter Counter, the page that keeps track of animal arrivals.

At left is a photo of our latest arrival, Betty, a Devon heifer calf, at the Freeman Farm.

Other recent arrivals include
Doc & Blue (Blue is the nigh ox in the photo at right, meaning he's closest to the farmer), our new team of oxen-in-training. There's a good chance you'll run into them during your next visit -- they are out working hard on commands and getting used to the yoke already, even at four and two months old, respectively. Their distinctive markings identify them as members of the Randall Lineback breed. The training takes time so these two will come up (pun intended) behind Lance and Henry, our Devon team who are now working full-time at Freeman Farm. At left, the lambs at Freeman Farm got a surprise visit from our Discovery Campers in April.

And -- below -- piglets are here! See below for a photo of our pair of two-month-old English Black piglets now in residence at the Freeman Farm.

Here are two videos of our lambs submitted by visitors:

  • a very new lamb with visitor commentary by OSV member C.S. Imming and
  • several new arrivals encountered by visitors on Easter Sunday.

  • More lambs are still expected, so be sure to plan a visit this spring to meet the baby animals, and check back as this page will be updated with news of any recent arrivals.

In the meantime, you may sign up for Old Sturbridge Village's E-Newsletter, with regular updates on activities at the Village.
